A single solar lantern can save a family 10,000 Ariary each month by reducing expenses on fuel, candles, and electricity. It allows children to have more time for reading in the evening, provides valuable moments for family gatherings, enhances personal safety, lowers the risk of fires from kerosene lamps tipping over, and decreases CO2 emissions, resulting in less pollution exposure.
Challenge
Electricity access is limited, with only about 20% of the overall population having it. In rural areas, just 5% have access to electricity. For the majority of Malagasy households, particularly those in rural regions, kerosene and candles are the primary sources of lighting.
Solution
We are collaborating with local partners to guarantee that our beneficiaries' basic human rights are fulfilled. Solar lanterns can significantly improve a family's circumstances by serving as desk lamps with high side lighting and reducing exposure to pollution. By providing the gift of clean energy, you also offer families valuable time to spend together.
